Breakfast foods that are fast and easy do not always provide for your body the good start you need for your day. No matter how active or busy you are, breakfast is still the most important meal of the day.
The ready made breakfast foods purchased at your local grocer are typically very high in sugar content. It might be fast and it certainly is easy, but it isn’t going to last. Our bodies need energy and the sugar we love in the morning is so quickly burned off you will find yourself wanting more before the morning is through.
There are a lot of things to get done at the beginning of everyday. With two working parents and young kids doing their best to be on time for the bus, getting the balanced nutrition in our breakfast foods becomes a major challenge.
Realistically, it can be the last thing you think of it in the morning, if you do some planning. Doing a little pre-planning to make breakfast foods that will give your body the right balance of great taste and good nutrition is worth the effort.
Thinking of what to eat at the last moment is where you will find yourself making the wrong choice. Many of us wouldn’t choose unhealthy foods or even to skip a meal if we had other options available to us. Making those options available is as easy as spending a few minutes on a Sunday afternoon to prepare a meal plan. You will likely be able to make the morning less stressful and consume much healthier breakfast foods if you do a little preparation.
You can ask the kids what they’d like to have for Monday or Tuesday breakfast and give them some input into whats on the menu. Saturday is a great day for baking some muffins, whole grain cookies with fruits, or other things that can be used during the week for fast, but healthy breakfast foods.
When the entire family participates in eating healthy the kids are a lot more likely to continue the process long after they have left the home. If they have participated in choosing the breakfast foods that will be on their plate in the morning and particularly if they have helped prepare those foods, they will be happy to eat them too.
The weekend, for most, is a great time to put your plan into action. Yummy muffins on Sunday morning is a delicious treat. Why not throw in an extra pan full of muffins and wrap them up in the refrigerator for a breakfast later in the week. Whole wheat pancakes store particularly well and taste great when warmed up a few days later. Taking a little extra time to double your breakfasts over the weekend or on any unhurried morning and storing those breakfast foods for a later date should provide great rewards.
Take the time to prepare and plan your breakfasts. Use the less busy mornings to bake or cook a little extra and store them away for another day. Try adding as much whole grain type breakfast foods as possible as they enter the blood stream slower and much more evenly than sugar. This will allow your energy to stay longer and not let you down before lunch rolls around. As your family watches you do this you will be teaching them how to live a healthy lifestyle and you all will feel the rewards.
